Last night I ended up taking a 7 iron to my TV set (don't ask)
Well... it's broken, and I've decided to turn this into something good
I am not going to replace my TV until October 1st. So today is officially the start of what I'm calling NO TV SEPTEMBER. That's right - for the rest of the month, no TV for me.
I will be keeping a log of my progress here. Anyone who wants to join me in this "experiment" feel free to post.
Day one. Well, to tell you the truth I normally watch "ER" reruns in the morning as I'm getting ready, but this morning I woke up really late and it was all I could do to find my keys, let alone check in with Maura Tierny. So, the TV embargo didn't really effect me.... YET

Day 2
I came home from work and the broken TV looked like a big, jagged mouth, 7 iron still lodged in its maw. Normally I turn it on as soon as I get home, keep it on in the background. Well, the silence was, as they say, deafening. I started reading this joint biography of Hitler and Stalin that I got last Christmas, but my eyes kept being drawn back to the TV. Finally I removed the 7 iron, and turned the TV to the wall. Kind of like Craig T. Nelson at the end of "Poltergeist."
There was nothing in particular that I wanted to watch (maybe Project Runway, but... eh, I can do without) but I still felt this gnawing emptiness... Couldn't get to sleep until I polished off a six-pack.
This morning late and bleary again, so wouldn't have had time to watch ER anyway.

DAY Three
I was tossing and turning like a boat on the open ocean last night. I must have woken up five times in the course of the night. Once I opened up my eyes and saw the digital clock read exactly 3:15. This freaked me out as it reminded me of first watching the James Brolin movie "The Amityville Horror" on TV as a kid. His character begins waking up at exactly 3:15 am - I believe because that's when the murders in the house took place.
Anyhow... nobody to murder in my place, as I live completely alone! It seems like my lack of TV watching is affecting my dreams... I'm not getting it during waking hours, so my unconcsious is trying to compensate. Well, last night must have been the start of "sweeps week," since I was in San Francisco in an Earthquake at a vegan restaurant. I was with a girl (never met in real life) who was a semi-nudist, so we got a little "T&A" for the home viewers too. Welcome to the GARY Network, I guess.
Woke up too groggy to care about putting on matching socks, let alone what Dr. Doug was up to, so morning was no big deal.

Day, what, Five?
Logging in from school. .. been holed up here since early Saturday morning. Not so bad, with a sleeping bag and a microwave. Today's Oct 1, isn't it? And so my grand, foolish experiment will come to an end. Soon. So, so soon. Home was not home anymore. Does that even explain anything? I am broken, a broken man. I thought I could just turn it off and let it go, I was naive. Wheel me into trauma stat, Carter, this clown is crashing!
